By providing a temporary home, foster families offer dogs a safe and loving environment where they can recover, socialize, and learn essential behaviors that prepare them for permanent adoption. This compassionate act not only helps reduce the overcrowding in shelters but also gives each dog the individual attention and care they need to thrive. Fostering saves lives and enriches the lives of both the dogs and the families who welcome them into their homes. Fostering is not a "tryout" before adoption but instead an opportunity to be a part of the adoption journey for a pup in need. Learn more...

Adopting a dog from a rescue organization is a profoundly rewarding experience that transforms lives. By choosing adoption, you provide a loving home to a dog in need, helping to break the cycle of abandonment and homelessness. Adoption not only gives these deserving animals a second chance but also enriches your life with unwavering companionship and unconditional love. Each adoption opens a space for another dog to be rescued, making it a powerful and compassionate choice that benefits both the animals and the community. View our adoptable pups...

Rescuing dogs from NYC & Long Island for the #UpstatePupsLife!
About Us
We are a 501(c)(3) dog rescue organization based out of our family home in Poughkeepsie, NY. Our family fostered dogs for a while before deciding to start our own, truly pet wellbeing focused, rescue. Our last foster from another agency, Sophia, came to us with only a few days left before crossing the rainbow bridge. Sophia's experience solidified it for us. We decided to start our own rescue, Upstate Pups. Our mission is to rescue pups from NYC & Long Island shelters for fostering and adoption in the Hudson Valley Region. We want to give NYC pups a new leash on life... the #UpstatePupsLife!
Having rescued and fostered a dozen dogs of our own from various rescues, we've learned how to ensure the best experience for our furry friends and their forever families. Thanks for being part of our journey!
